Looking for the perfect chance to earn credits while also getting some “real world” experience in the job force??? Consider interning for the Project Payback Program.

Who can apply? Social Science students (preferably Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Family, Community and Youth Sciences, and/or Education) interested in juvenile delinquency and development, as well as the rights of crime victims. You must be at least 20 yrs old and a junior or senior in college. You will also be required to pass a criminal background check.

What shifts are available? The morning shifts are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. The afternoon shifts are from 1:30pm to 5:00 pm. We need dedicated workers who are able to work 3-4 shifts per week. You must be able to commit to at least one full academic semester.

What are the job responsibilities? The major areas in which we need assistance:

1) Case Management: researching databases; making phone calls and/or drafting letters to probation officers, residential commitment programs, the juvenile offenders and/or their parents, the victims, etc.; documenting all case contacts in the files.

2) Court Assistant: Assist the Project Payback Program Specialist with covering the disposition and compliance dockets. This requires taking notes and meeting directly with the juveniles and/or their families. Must be able to work every Wednesday from 8:45 until 12:00pm.

3) Special Projects: updating websites, resource guides, brochures, program materials, etc.

4) Job Skills Trainings: Assist the Project Payback Program Specialist with teaching the juveniles the necessary skills for getting and keeping a job. This includes how to act/dress, filling out applications, drafting résumés, mock interviews, calling business to see who is hiring, etc.

How do I apply? Call Project Payback immediately to schedule an appointment with Megan Hill #337-6178. You will also need to talk to your college department regarding specific requirements (such as minimum number of hours, research/term paper, supervising professor, etc).
