E-Service


On June 21, 2012 the Florida Supreme Court issued its Second Corrected Opinion in No. SC10-2101. This opinion addresses Electronic Service by E-Mail. Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.516 provides for service of pleadings and documents by E-mail and sets out the content requirement for documents served by E-mail. This rule is optional on September 1, 2012, and mandatory in all criminal cases starting September 1, 2013. The Office of the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit is prepared to receive Electronic service of Pleadings and Documents pursuant to this rule at eservice@sao8.org.

Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.516(b)(1)(A) provides for the designation of a primary e-mail address for service. The Office of the State Attorney designates the E-mail address eservice@sao8.org for service in all cases in which the State of Florida is plaintiff or a party. This E-mail address will be for all case types: Felony (CF), Misdemeanor (MM), Traffic (CT), Involuntary Civil Commitment (JR), Mental Health (MH), Domestic Relations (DR), County Ordinance (CO), Municipal Ordinance (MO), and County to Circuit appeals (AP). In each case where an Information is filed, the Office of the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit will include the eservice address, eservice@sao8.org, for the Assistant State Attorney below his or her signature.

Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.516(B)(1)(E) provides for the format of Email. This portion of the rule does not specify that the case number shall be written in the Uniform Case Number format; however, Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.245(b) provides for its use in all cases. The Office of the State Attorney will implement automated document management which will be dependant upon the proper use of the e-mail format as set out in Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.516(B)(1)(E) and the Uniform Case Number format. Please utilize the Uniform Case Number format when completing the subject line of the email pursuant to Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.516(B)(1)(E)(i).
